In this article, I'm running an interesting interview with Ekaterina Mityasova, Director of Business Development at International Digital Solutions. Ekaterina will try to draw your attention to some techniques you should follow and apply in order to get more interactions and more engagements.
1 – Is Instagram a suitable platform for online
marketing?
Even though you could
till now hear some arguments on whether it is worth and possible to market in
Instagram, it is quickly increasing its power as a marketing platform. This
social network allows for viral growth mechanisms (mind the power of hashtags
on Instagram), therefore it can boost high engagement rates.
Whatever metric is
chosen by analytics to measure engagement, Instagram is on top of the list! By
its average post engagement rate, average profile interactions, or total
profile interactions.
Instagram is already
feeling comfortable in the Middle East. For example, in Saudi Arabia it is more
popular than Pinterest & LinkedIn, and as popular as Skype & Facebook
Messenger.
2 – What’s the most important and unique feature of
Instagram?
Instagram is designed
as a mobile app and in spite of it’s being available on desktop, the non-mobile
functionality is limited and not really welcoming active usage. That is the
reason why location specific content gets boosted on Instagram.
That is an open invitation
for location-based marketing. It creates great opportunities for local
businesses, such as shops, restaurants, beauty salons or dental clinics, and
public organizations, such as schools, to nurture communities. Location
sensitive information, that is personalized and delivered on time, will always
be valued by people searching for certain products or services.
3 – Shall I use Instagram, Pinterest and Flickr or
it’s better to use just Instagram?
This depends on two
main factors: your audiences and your social media implementation proficiency.
First of all, if
Pinterest or Flickr are not popular with your target audience, then don’t use
them. To define whether your audience is present there, you may either search
the platforms or ask your stakeholders directly. Are they travellers, travel
bloggers and half professional photographers? Well, they are probably active on
Flickr and Instagram. Are they moms? Then you are more likely to engage with
them on Instagram and Pinterest. Are they part of tech or geek crowd? Probably they hang out on
Flickr, not on Pinterest or Instagram.
Second of all, if you are just starting your social media presence &
rich content publishing, choose one pilot platform where you can try your voice
and tone, figure out how your brand should be represented. Basically you will
test your content strategy. As soon as you figure it out, amplify it to other
channels popular among your target audience.
4 – Photos on Instagram should be professional?
Casual? And why?
The visual content on
Instagram should be of professional quality, as long as it is published for
professional purposes. It represents your organization and it should be up to
its level.
Of course, when you
highlight corporate culture or events with behind the scene photos, they won’t
be of professional quality by definition.
5 – How can I generate traffic from Instagram account
to my website?
In a general sense,
you need to figure out what kind of traffic would you like to receive and for
what reason. Are you seeking for brand recognition? For promotion of special
offers? For community growth? Your traffic-generating campaign should consider
these goals to be effective.
That being said,
contests that induce user-generated content are a great way to drive traffic to
your website.
Establishing influencer relations is another awesome way to generate
traffic. Businesses in travel and tourism industry have been enjoying this
strategy in a creative way: inviting powerful Instagrammers to paid trips, and
even paying them salary for working on creating professional visual content
about the destination!
Summary
The conclusion is, if
you are not on Instagram, and your audiences are there, then start working on
it today. Do your researches, plan your launch and start experimenting.
Remember, you will benefit from creating your own hashtags on Instagram,
they help to nurture communities and direct well-targeted traffic to your
website. You may create specific hashtags dedicated to a single campaign
(contest) and evergreen hashtags that will stay with you as long as your
business runs.
